Holy Glaze - The Faye
Bello!
I came up with a series! the Holy Glaze where I talk about things I love. I haven't set the parameters yet, I am 100% going with the flow. I am jotting down the different ideas that I can cover and I think this is so fitting for me. I love having no restrictions to talk about things that I love. Free will maxxing, side quest maxxing type shit.
First on my Holy Glaze is The Faye (Aidan, Aram, Francis, Kayla, Ryan). They are a local SoCal indie band, but also my friends. I chose them as the first batter because I know them personally, but I also enjoy their music very much so it felt easier and comfortable to talk about them first. I think my first time seeing them live was January 2024 in Fullerton. And I had seen them live a few more times after that, but I didn't seek out for their music on streaming platforms because in my head, I was like, "band music only sounds good live so I'm not going to bother looking them up." And one day, I decided to give it a shot and look them up. Now they hold down the fort in my "so niche so indie" apple music playlist.
Alright, Rabbit Hole has one of the greatest lines ever written, "they won't pick up the phone you're such a fucking whoreee." It's the way that Aram sings it. Like nonchalant but fuck you but love you. It is on my roster of vocal stims.
But Shutter has to be my favorite Faye song. Okay go listen to the song before my description and come back to read it so you can form your own thoughts before reading mine. Melodic, drum kicks, luscious bass, MORE melodic guitar, Aram's dulce de leche ahh voice. This is such a well-rounded song for me. I am a sucker for well-rounded songs. Beginning, middle, and end. Highs and lows of high school football. And the cymbal part titititi tat tat scratches the perfect part in my brain. This song is like if 87 layers of different things came together to make 1 perfect thing. A croissant. And there are different kinds of croissants to represent different moods they go for. Furthermore, I always thought that the greatest songs had amazing bridges. "When did you get so pretttyyyy? My temper lashes really. How did you make me come arounddd" goes crazy (I now know that it's greedy, not pretty, but idgaf that's how I heard it for the past however long). And then the part where it's two different lines sung at the same time. Whatever that term is. I love. Aram and Aidan sings it when they play live and it's so fun. And the tempo that this song is in is my favorite tempo for band music. 10s across the board.
Next, Frontega. I wish I could add voice notes because there are so many tidbits that I love in this song. If you see me in person, please ask me to dissect this song and point out the parts I like because I would love to be like "this part!!" 78 times. I will point out one of my favorite parts though; the beat change after the breakdown later in the song. Compliments to the chef. This song really starts off buttery unassuming and then they go brazy. I THOUGHT YOU!! DIDN'T CARE!! DON'T LOOK BACK!! I'M NOT THERE!! LAY ME DOWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNN. Soooo good. This song has amazing push and pull.
If you can't catch them live, check out their Soul Tape session :) I tried to write this as a listener, an audience member so it's more of a constructive glazing. The term constructive glazing is so funny I just thought of it right now. I implore you to go out to local shows and see the talent that's hiding under capitalistic algorithm. No one gaf if you're there alone. I'd probably strike up a conversation with a stragner if I had a drink or two in me. Community is made by active participation. Anyways, I got off track but I hope July treats y'all well <3
