The Concept of Contextualizing
Hello princess,
I just came across a tiktok video that said, "being the smartest person in the room is the most attractive thing that you can be." At first, I was taken back because I don't think I'd ever want to be the smartest person in the room. And I don't think I would find that attractive. I think I'd find the most emotionally intelligent person to be the most attractive. Smart ≠ Intelligent. Can you read the room? Can you sense the intricate social dynamics happening in the circle? Can you notice when the energy shifts and can you direct it? People are so differently knotted in the way that they're constructed that I don't think it'd be fair to distinguish smartness amongst each other. But also, even if you were the smartest person, are you able to contextualize different concepts and form your own opinions and ideas? Are you able to take A and B and create C? Or even Z? This is why I find it important to surround myself with people that give this energy. I think I find myself less tired when I'm surrounded with people like this. And also why I find the beauty in everything because everything can find a way to each other.
Creating something new from something that exists has been a concept that artists have been utilizing since the dawn of ages. That's why Renaissance artists were popping off. They studied the greats and put their own sparkle in it. And can I just talk about the ability to give constructive criticism. I love being able to dissect a piece—why I love it, why I hate it, questioning the choices that the art and the artist made. Being able to give critique and receive critique. One of my biggest strengths I think is the ability to decide. Because underneath that decision, it's layers and layers of education, experience, understanding, contextualizing, and everything else in between. I am able to create my own opinions because of the things that make up who I am. And if I can't decide on something, it just means that the certain values don't added up enough for me to decide.
I don't even know where I was going to head with this blog piece. But the conclusion is, everyone should take some type of fundamental art class because it blooms your intellectual depth in ways you don't expect.
